PEER CONSULTATION
Peer Consultation Process for A Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) Site-Related Environmental Assessment Program
Menzie-Cura is acting as an independent third party to implement and administer the peer consultation that is being conducted pursuant to the October 2004 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and 3M Company and Dyneon LLC (the Companies) for a Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) Site-Related Environmental Assessment Program.
“The purpose of the Peer Consultation Process is to provide a forum for scientists and relevant experts from various stakeholder groups to exchange views on the Companies’ Assessments, and in particular on the recommended data needs, and to provide these views to a third party contractor” (EPA, 2004). As the independent third party contractor, Menzie-Cura is responsible for selecting members of the peer consultation group who will review the Companies’ Assessments and recommend further data needs. Menzie-Cura will manage the peer consultation process to ensure an unbiased review.
The peer consultation is being funded by 3M Company and Dyneon LLC. Although the Companies provide funding, they do not have influence over the conduct of the peer consultation or the content of a final report summarizing the recommendations of the peer consultation group.
The following figure outlines the peer consultation process.
